A sliding window has many benefits, and one of them is the cheaper cost. Cleaning can involve taking off the sashes, cleaning them conveniently and putting them back in place. There is however one hitch about these sliding window and that is the lower ventilation. That is because only one of the two sashes can be moved on the other to open a sliding window.
Casement windows allow you to open these on the outer or inner side on the hinges. You also have the option of picking newer styles with pivot mechanisms that have come into the market recently. You have excellent ventilation with these types of windows, as it can be opened quite wide.
Unlike casement windows that are hinged to the sides, awning windows are hinged to the top. They have to be tilted from the bottom to open and that results in lesser ventilation. There are also awning windows that are hinged at the bottom, and these are often seen on lower walls. Such windows are called hopper windows.
The Jalousie window is made up of an array of glass slats that tilt when the window is cranked open. That sure lets in a lot of fresh air and is an excellent window where ventilation is prioritized. But it is not considered to be the safest type of window.
If you intend on keeping your cooler or heater on most of the time, then you may not want to keep your windows wide open. That is why a fixed pane window is a great option as it cannot be opened and provides no ventilation.
A double hung window looks very pretty, and is very commonly seen in most American homes. It is made up of two sashes, and one has to be slid over the other to open it. That's why only half of the double hung window opens at one time. The ventilation can however be managed by the simple tactic of opening the upper part of one window, and the lower of the other one that is opposite to the first one. With that, the air in the room makes its way out from the window with the upper portion open, and fresh air makes its way in from the lower portion.
The single and the double hung window types are quite similar, and the style differs only on the basis of the sashes that can be opened. Only one sash can be opened in the single hung window.
Bay window is a classy option that is either in the double hung form, or in the casement form. What sets this type of window apart is that it sticks out from the wall. The formation is such that one window is in the centre and the other two sections of the window spread out of the wall in equal proportion on either side.
A bow window involves more than three segments that extend from the wall to take the shape of a bow like curve.
Tilt turn are simply a great safety option that has a lock system in the centre. This type of window can be tilted completely, and that is what makes this a sleek pick that is quite easy to clean. It also has all the features that make it the perfect emergency exit.
Egress windows are big windows that serve as a perfect emergency exit. The size of these windows is very much in accordance with what is defined by local building coded for an emergency exit.
A storm window includes a pocket of air or space amid itself, and the usual window in the house. This space also acts as insulation for the house that protects it from hot and cold climates. It also acts as a block that safeguards the house from storms and other adverse climatic conditions.
